Hi, as many of you know, I am female. This has an unfortunate side-effect of making every other male on PWO confess their love/hit on me/want me to do...stuff for them (without even knowing who I am, really).

This has happened in PWO for as long as I remember, and at first it was flattering but now people just get creepier and creepier and I just don't know who they are. I have tried both being nice and nasty, but it doesn't matter because another guy comes up to replace them.

To cut to the chase:

EVERY. DAMN. DAY.
I am made uncomfortable through private messaging. Random people are treating me like some sort of goal. It's like they try to get me to feel affections for them or... I don't even know. They have tried guilt-tripping me to get my name, location, address, cell phone number...People have attempted coercion for everything short of my Social Security Number. And this is in Every faucet of PWO. I am never left alone.
I cringe when I have any messages. I cannot take it anymore, I literally CANNOT.

I am a human being that just wants to enjoy this game without having to pretend to be somebody I am not. I will no longer hide behind hidden accounts or politely decline you, because I shouldn't have to resort to that to feel safe. This seems dramatic, but I kid you not the situation has gone above and beyond. It is NOT acceptable for this to happen to anyone, and I have gone through enough for this post to be justified.

So if you even hint at wanting something more than friendship, I will not be professional with you. I will, at the least, ignore you. If you continue to treat me that way, I am warning you now that I will do whatever the hell I want to about the situation. That includes, if possible, reporting your harassment and getting you banned from this game. It has gone on for too long now and I will not put up with it. I will not take ANY SLIGHT HINT. I've been in these situations several times now and if you even try it after reading this post,

you for not considering me. You are not worth my time. (Besides, I'm taken anyway.)

It's for reals, though it's pretty much stopped after I got my rant out and put my foot down, so you could call this settled on a personal level. But, it bothers me that it WILL happen again to others eventually. :V Read my next response to this person, see why I was driven up a wall.

Yep, but as I stated earlier somewhere, new ones will just crop up. It's more of a societal issue than one or two creeps. I think there are a lot of people that believe just one or two awkward/shallow chats makes them familiar enough with a female to ask for more intimate (read: smexual) contact. They also think that asking for such can't do much harm, can it? At worst they'd get turned away, right? It's just a little conversation and a pick-up line. Well,those little comments add up because the people keep coming.

Imagine a random person having really weird shallow conversations with you trying to get into your pants. Not hard I know, but you sit there hoping they're just trying to be friendly. However, you know he's just trying to warm you up and will ask to have some of yo female booty soon enough. But you see, you can't accuse a random person you barely know of such shallow intentions. So, you sit through a painful conversation trying to ignore the "he's gonna ask for your address" paranoia that's building up. You give him a chance, but it comes anyway. You reject him but he keeps hinting and asking. This goes on for 2-3 days while you try to solve the issue in a (nice) manner.

Meanwhile some other dude has the same exact idea. You then deal with that while also dealing with the previous dude. Previous dude leaves, and you ALMOST finish up with dealing with current dude, but a NEW dude shows up. Repeat cycle.

To avoid the stress of dealing with just GOD AWFUL conversations one after the other, you start shutting off PMs and using the /ignore command. You shut out your friends through the /pmon command and have to resort to using 3rd party applications to communicate. If you dare to leave PMs open and just reject the shallow chat people before they even get to asking you if you wanna see their love machine...
Well, you're suddenly a rude a-hole that overreacts to stuff and doesn't give people a chance.
THAT is what I have resorted to doing because quite frankly there's not another way around it. It's given me peace and quiet, though, and that in and of itself is golden.

Because of people who can't see past the smexualized aspect of women, I do not give other people a chance to talk to me privately. I will miss out on some good PWO buddies but I'll miss out on the people who drove me to such efforts. They're also who drove me to making this honestly over-dramatic (but honest) topic.

I'm a guy, and I have never even denied that, but I play as a female character in games. Pokémon, WoW, both female. Why? I just prefer to play as a female, and I always felt their outfits a far nicer. So, people assume I'm a woman - and treat me as such.

Have had people send me some rather... "interesting" messages through the years, and definitely been nicer to me since they thought I was female. Why is it so hard for people to just ignore gender and let people be people.. Zeb shouldn't need to play as a male to get peace, nor should she just be quiet and ignore it.

This thread isn't about someone seeking attention, it's about someone who wants people to show a little respect and don't get personal.

To add to that you have the guy type who are still in the mentality that girls are no good for games, with comments like Why you don't go make sandwiches instead of playing. saddly mostly encountered those types on runescape forum. I'm a guy and play mostly female char because they have mostly more customisation that male overall, and I get sometime guys acting like douche.

Still the most annoying thing to see in any online game. I really feel sorry for these kids rl relationships when they act this way in a virtual environment.
It sucks that you had to hide under aliases to enjoy the game, glad to hear its settled down for you hopefully other females in the community that are having this problem might see your topic and get it to stop for them also.
