So you logged on your account to find one of your Pokemon is missing. Now you may be wondering, "What can I do to get it back?'".

Well I'll give you a hint. Screaming in the all chat "GM HAAAAAALP I'VE BEEN HACKED!!!!!!!!!!", is not the most effective way to get it back and will more than likely end up getting you muted. In this thread, I will show you how to protect yourself from being hacked and scammed as well as showing you the proper way to go about making a report, if you have already been hacked or scammed.

The first step is prevention!

Make sure that your PWO password is different from any other password you use as this will prevent someone from gaining access to your PWO account or any other account you hold in the event of your personal data being compromised. Also ensure when viewing our Forums, Playerdex and Wiki - you are accessing our genuine websites. In the past there have been several phishing websites that have been made to look like our websites to enable them to phish players passwords. Our genuine websites are found on the following domains:
PWO only has a windows desktop client of which mirrors can be found from our website. We do not have any other clients or mobile apps.

From Chocobo7:
I want to add two things to prevent hacking: You should make sure your password isn't something that is easily guessable - be sure to use a mix of lower and upper case letters and numbers too Also NEVER tell anyone your password, and if someone is asking for yours, be sure to report them.

Now what do you do if you have already been hacked or scammed?

Well the first thing you want to do when you get a new Pokemon, such as a Shiny, UC (Uncatchable), or HR(Horribly Rare), is to log on to the Playerdex and take a screen shot of your Pokemon's ID numbers, that way if they do turn up missing you have some way to get them back.

How do you do that, you might ask? Well let me show you.
  1. Go to the playerdex (https://playerdex.pokemon-world-online.com) and log in
  2. Once you are logged in, click "My Pokemon"
  3. Find the Pokemon you just obtained and click it
  4. The page will refresh and display the Pokemon's ID number, original trainer and stats
  5. Capture a screenshot (visit our Wiki for information on how to capture a screenshot)
You should also capture a screenshot when making trades by taking screenshots of your trade agreement and the trade screen.

Membership Scams

The most common type of trade scamming is for membership. When trading for membership make sure the person is trustworthy. If you can't be sure if they are trustworthy - ask other players by using the chat channels or Discord. Now when you trade with someone for membership the safest thing to do is whoever is trading the membership should send the membership using Global Link on Playerdex fire before sending over any Pokemon, Items or money you wish to trade. Just PM the player and ask them to send the membership first. If they don't agree, its more than likely to be a scam. However, if they agree - log out so the membership can be added to your account. Log back in and type /ismember in the ingame chat or check your membership status by visiting the My Account on Playerdex.

Daycare Scams

The second most common type of scamming is Daycare Scamming. Since PWO doesn't have an NPC Daycare System - players like yourselves create and run daycares. These work by giving a player a Pokemon and they level it up to the level you requested. Most daycares ask for some type of payment such as shinies, UCs, HRs, or Pokemoney. The first thing to know is NEVER give your Pokemon to a random person who posts in the ingame chat advertising daycare services. Instead use the daycare section of the forums and request daycare in one of the daycare shops or post your own request topic. Before you post make sure to read through the comments in the topic to check that the provider is reputable. Now if you arrange a deal with a daycare provider, remember to do just like in a trade and make sure to take a screen shot of the daycare agreement and the actual trade taking place.

Now what if they don't return the pokes, ignore you, or simply disappear with your Pokemon?

Follow the steps listed above on how to make a report as by taking the screenshots - the PWO staff will be able to track down your Pokemon and may be able to return your Pokemon and carry out any further action to the offending player as necessary.

Rollback

A rollback occurs when the server crashes without saving. This can cause loss of recently caught Pokemon, badges, items, money or a decrease in levels. When this happens DO NOT MAKE A TOPIC ABOUT IT. Nothing can be done about a rollback. The only way to get the Pokemon you lost due to a rollback, is to hunt and catch it again. The same goes for badges and levels.

Hacking

If you have found that your account has been hacked and your Pokemon and other items have disappeared. Post an account issue post on Playerdex and a GM can investigate your report and identify if it is possible to return any of your lost belongings. Please be aware that if your loss is due to account sharing - your account will instead be banned as it is against the rules to share your account details.

With these tips - we hope that you can remain safe.

this was quite informative, i wasint even aware membership was trade-able , does it have to show the poikemons stats as well or just the ID number?

That's fine S long as you still take. Screen shot of that and upload it and post it

You could also include the /ismember chat command that will tell you whether or not your account has membership or not. Much faster than entering a battle.

You should probably also mention the difference between being hacked/scammed and a roll back which seem to lead to similar questions.

Otherwise, it is perfect.

They might seem simple, but they will do dtop a lot of hacking attempts

Good guide, should be helpful to a lot of people. =)

Keyloggers would also be a good thing to cover a little bit on. They are one of the top ways people get hacked. Although PWO probably isn't as likely targeted as some other MMORPG's. Still good chance it can happen.

A simple segment on anti-virus programs, and possibly anti-malware/anti-spyware programs.

Also Windows 7 has a separate snipping tool to take screen shots.

Windows vista has it as well to use.

It's found in

Start > all programs > accessories

today, the game is modern, we can see the stats of the pokemon in trade, but we must be careful not to trust your password to anyone, because it involves new people, who do not take anything seriously, not to rob you think 2x

ok i have a question that from reading this section i dont see has been answered. The question is if a poke has already been lost due to a hack or scam how can u possibly know its ID unless u have noted and know all your pokes id's. By the way i believe my shiny venonat has gone. Ill double check it but last time i looked at my pokes in playerdex i couldnt see it (yes i viewed all my pokes not just team). Not sure how im suppos to get it back if i have no way of posting its id
