I cannot believe we forgot to do this thing. Welp, better late than never.

Greetings! Fellow players - both old and new, noobs and bigger noobs. I would like to carry on this award-hosting tradition this year too.
The year was full of ups and downs, highs and lows. Many quit, many joined. Nonetheless, it was one of the most, if not The most exciting year of Pokemon World Online and it looks like the fun isn't coming to an end anytime soon.
Now that that's done with. It's time to hand out Awards to the ones deserving enough.

As this was the year where I've unexpectedly but unregrettably left my longevous involvement in PWO, I have not been embroiled within the domain of PWO within the past-several months; even when I was last active, my activity was dissolving more behind the scenes than the community, and thus my attention was more single-facted towards the staff.

Therefore, my superlatives will mostly be categorically limited to the staff; it is the one subculture of the community that I was the most conscious of in the twighlight of my playtime and thus the one my memory hasn't been greatly eroded over, or undercooked to begin with, within the past year.

Nominees will be underlined below.

Most Influential: Shane

The expeditious, unparalleled strides he made towards development in the immediacy of his return, the debacle within the staff that ultimately prompted him to leave, the boomerang effect of Shane leaving (the client-rights withdrawal, the leakage of the client's source-code, and so on), and the decision to ultimately segway into a game that would be staged into PWO's most-highlighted competitor—momentous changes and impacts that have revolved around Shane.

As the abrasion between Shane and the rest of the staff mounted, it only lended more plausibility to the narrative that Shane ultimately left a more harmful impact on the project in the end—especially with the advent of his own Pokemon MMO. However, if you put his contributions in a vacuum, all notions can only indicate that he was the difference-maker in PWO's once-evolving progress earlier this year; one can only speculate the furtherance of that progress if he had not been spurned away by the staff at the juncture that he did.

Best Admin: Tecknician

Not only did Tecknician furnish some of the most memorable and promising updates before Shane's arrival; he was the only Admin who was very well-suited for managing the rest of the staff, and the only one I've been able to really respect as a leader ever since crenel's incumbency. A visionary and reformist for the staff structure and roles distributions, it is no coincidence that the staff went into even worse disarray ever since Teck elected to resign—not that the mess was single-handedly fixable by Tecknician, but the imposition of his leadership at least prevented it from worsening.

His impact immediately attenuated as he started to fade away from the staff, as evinced by the direction the staff went into: faulty recruitment habits (the selection of lower- and mid-tier candidates for staff roles just because their chemistry with staff allowed them to overlook their shortcomings), worse intercommunication skills among the staff, and micro-organization among staff roles. Example: adding the HR and PRM ranks, which do nothing to streamline the staff's operations as much as hindering it with unnecessary checks and balances, and centralizing roles to standalone groups that would be more feasible to overlap with the rest of the staff.

Best DEV: Shane

As the most-skilled and willing hobbyist that PWO could've asked for in its time, and one that his new project graciously benefits from, PWO's last saving grace was squandered when he left. PWO was poised for the breakthrough period that it long waited for, and one that it once deserved, immediately in his return. A resurgent community, after years of decline, was foreseeable—until Shane left.

While the staff may blissfully perpetuate the notion that they operate better without him, reality's narrative will always indicate otherwise when the best interest of the project is put into perspective. A resurgent community was in sight, and the progress of the project began to deviate away from the high-social, low-production propensity of the staff as progress finally started to outweigh the glut of discussions focused on by the staff (don't get me wrong; discussions are needed and often useful for refining and evolving ideas, but overdoing it, as PWO's staff has been disposed towards doing in my time, only causes a diminishing-returns effect on the overall efficacy of production).

PWO may have stayed afloat long before Shane's return, but players were still yearning for an ultimate breakthrough period for the project; when that breakthrough juncture was squandered away, it left players with a taste of unprecedented progress that they may never see again, and a hard-hit sense of regression in the loss of Shane—sentiments that are irreversible, barring the off-chance that they ever manage to replace Shane.

Best GM: Brennan

A disparate work ethic and shrewd deduction skills compared to the rest of the staff, having 2-3 Brennans would suffice for the meat of the GMs' workloads. His name became very synonymous with the GM role itself, and I am glad that he was given the opportunity to serve in that role by the staff—despite the personal misgivings towards him at the juncture of recruitment.

With only one GM aboard the team at this present time, I can only imagine that Brennan is sorely missed on their team—especially with the leakage of the client's source-code, which only gives more transparency to the communicational protocol of the client to the server and thus facilitates the exploitability of bots.

Best Scripter: Luminance

The closest computer-science polymath that PWO's staff has ever had, he was brilliant in his capacity as a scripter. As an extensively experienced programmer himself, he has been very well-acquainted with the programming/scripting methodology in general, and therefore his methodological knowledgeability easily adapted to scripting.

While other scripters were well-deserved in their positions, such as Dalek, Regice (before his probationary demotion), and so forth, you would have a hard time convincing me that they are as resourceful as Luminance in the application of coding. Unlike neophytes to the coding methodology, who commonly only reverse-engineer other work, Luminance managed to pioneer methods in his scripts that were never previously used in the scripting system before—methods that allowed new content ideas and behavior thereof to be implemented without using clunky duck-tape fixes.

Best CG: Fonty

Fonty has the most underrated work ethic out of any staff member, in my opinion. Part of that inrecognition is due to the lack of transparency for his efforts behind the scenes; as someone who had that transparency in eyeshot, however, I can attest that hes had his finger in each pots and maximized the tangible contributions that are producible in the capacity of CGs—particularly with his efforts in discussions and data-mining.

Most Dedicated Staff: Rigaudon

I have not always agreed with her philosophies or propensity of overthinking; however, weighing in the preponderance towards overthinking is exactly why she has merit for this award. She is the very definition of a critical thinker, as she is oftentimes the first to think an update through from all angles.

While I still do not agree with the existence of a Project Manager role in general, she is best-suited for it. Even before the titular rank was implemented, she effectively was the project-manager with the leadership efforts she's asserted over the rest of the staff.
