A few days ago I had a player complain to me that they were often trying to track me down; and when they discovered that I always sign in Anonymously whenever I'm on the game and Forums they claimed it was unfair. My response was simple: "If you have the ability to turn yourself invisible like us Ghosts, would you pass up the opportunity?" Of course, not everyone on the Staff has the same ability. But even so, with how busy some of the Staff are these days and the fact that many of them seem to move around everywhere in PWO during their time in the game, it can be quite hard to try to track one down. Wouldn't it be nice therefore if they told you where they were? I bet you would like that. And how about if those same staff challenged you to find them as quickly as you can? What's that, you say? What am I talking about? Well, I'll tell you.
An idea spawned from the heads of multiple members of staff and discussed and even trialled a few times over the past month, the PWO Staff would like to introduce our first official regular event into the game. We call it "Staff Hide-and-Seek", and it's exactly what it sounds like. When it's time to do a Staff Hide-and-Seek event, a member of PWO Staff will name himself as the person to be found. That member of Staff will then choose a location anywhere in PWO to hide in - the rule being it must be a location within Kanto or Johto that any player can reach through normal means; and does not require an event to unlock - but it can be an area that requires certain badges to reach. It can also be an indoor or outdoor location; but it must be somewhere players can actually see.
Once ready, the region they're hiding in will be revealed, and the game begins. All YOU have to do is find them and get their attention by saying "I found you" to them in All Chat or via PM (PM preferred, but note that some staff disable PMs). If they are found in the first five minutes, the player who finds them scored five points; otherwise the Staff member gives one more clue to their location and the points available reduce by one. This will continue every five minutes until they are found or the reward reaches zero. If the reward reaches zero, the game is over and the Staff take five points instead.
And what do points make? Prizes! That's right! Every month there will be prizes available to the three highest-scoring players in Staff Hide-and-Seek that month, the prize depending on your final position. But! The Staff aren't making it easy. If in a given month, the Staff end up with more points than the players, all the prizes for that month are lost! :tease: That means it's Player vs Player vs Staff. So if you want to win, you've got to keep your eyes peeled and your mind sharp. Because we're also kind-hearted, your monthly points will also accumulate across the year, and at the end of the year the highest overall scores will win an even BETTER prize! :woot:
Staff members are banned from using any commands or "special abilities" that would make finding them impossible - that includes me going invisible. As for the players, no cheating. If you are nowhere near the Staff when you claim to have found them, you won't win; and of course, no taking advantage of glitches to find us - it's against the ToS to abuse glitches anyway so you could get banned!
More information about the Event, as well as the prizes for this month and the current Leaderboard, can be found in the Events section of the Forums, in the topic titled "1st Official Event!" So, are you as good at hunting down people as you are at hunting Pokémon? Time will tell.
