How To Level And Evolve Metapod?

I just caught a metapod and I am having a hard time leveling it since it only knows harden. I usually sub it out of battle and have it share exp, but it doesnt get much. At any rate, what level will it evolve to butterfree? Its level 5 right now.

Catch a Caterpie instead so it knows tackle when it evolves into Metapod?



Just an assumption, I'm new and not sure if a Caterpie with tackle is available for capture, though it should be.
