Last tournament they said it would be the last one ever made by staff, they failed to control situation.
Some players made accusations over Dovee, He decided to lend some of his pokemon to some of his friends, when the tournament was coming, some players saw it like give them advantage over the others, many other players didnt see it that way because Dovee had "left" the game weeks before tournament, However players made accusations to Dovee and his friends, which caused Dovee´s friends to come and start ansewring to those players, Situation went out of control and they started cursing each other, Staff decided not to host tournaments anymore, Funny things are:

1.- Players which accused Dovee and his friends of some kinf of conspiracy, are not even around anymore, but staff decided to punish the whole community because of some few players that were not even loyal to the game.

2.- Even though, Not many cared about Dovee giving his pokemon to his friends nor believed in that conspiracy, Dovee didnt leave the game and he came back as normal player, which sounds like he did lend his pokemon to his friends only to participate in the tournament he hosted lol, but well was a funny topic to read, reactions from players and even former staff members lol.

To be honest KP - really, right now it's a matter of manpower and only a little with the above.

Potential tourneys had been discussed/etc even after the fact and we have prototypes for repeatable tourney events and prizes, but it's not seen as a good investment right now mostly due to balancing of staff priorities. We're trying to finally create solid foundations for the game, and all of our focus needs to be there with testing and supporting the much faster development speeds our new DEVs are working at. The only issue past tourneys have shown is that they take careful maintenance and can go very south very quickly; the tourney before last also had some really rocky patches. Even without that black spot, let's take everything else into full consideration: automated events take less work, automated events can involve all players while normally going smoothly, staff have two or so people available in each content group including the community-based ranks, players are completely capable of running their own tourneys (as exhibited recently), and players are not able to create their own new map/NPC/quest based events. With those considerations combined, even barring past tourneys PvP events are always a second or third choice for simple reasons of efficiency.

We have to pick and choose what we do lest the scope of the project gets out of control, which is something that is true of any game even if we aren't at a professional level. Tourneys are really one of many feature options, and we have to prioritize and decide which features do or don't make it. It might not be the answer people are happy to hear, and I understand what you're forwarding is the last that was told to the public. However luckily for everyone, PWO is an ongoing project; if something doesn't make it now or isn't a good choice right now it can be revisited later.

With all that said, at least now it can be known that "the last tourney had problems" is not the full reasoning for the lack of recent tourneys, nor are tourneys a complete no-go for the future. However, it's always going to be first on the cutting board until we get back on our feet and have stability.

Old fashioned tournaments should be part of the history. Last year staff started looking into Battle tower and it's rewards. Placing cool tournament with help of the code and players would work however. Before I left staff I suggested one tournament involving Gible as reward but it was never discussed enough and it was said that Gible is too awesome Pokemon as a reward. Back on the point, the tournaments should not involve staff that much like before. That being said, current staff do lack of Pokemon knowledge so they often resort to other PWO related media such as IRC inputs and Xats to help them navigate through anything PvP and battle related. Given the situation they often put themselves in it would be the best to discuss possible rewards on forums with players. Mostly because staff do not know which Pokemon might be viable without input from side and because you give everyone a chance to give input. Rewards to be chosen on democratic way while the tournament system is being by staff, that is the only way I can see awesome tournament hosted by staff is being organized.

As for KPs post...Well erm..PWO staff should expect bias to happen from players side and accusations directed to staff back then. However, only variable that played any important part in it was the tournament system and it's handling itself. Not easy to organize one under bad system, does not matter who or why, given the system on which tournament is being organized is rather poor. If the system was more democratic there would be less bias. 1st, 2nd...10th does not matter, you battle for already known prizes. Given the prizes presented before you signed up for the tournament only thing one can complain about is their luck or ****ty battle engine. That being said, this is one of the situations where staff should not be moaned at because people who organized one never had any power or tools to make it better.

Tournament system needs to be predefined code wise and blocks applied. Move bans, pokemon bans..even the battle replay to analyze the battle if needed. Soon as you sign up for the tournament you can't do anything because server control what you can and what you can't do given the predefined functions and variables, even giving out the prize could be done automatically. You see few tournaments being hosted and in each one you can see what is allowed and what not and of course what is the reward for certain place. Depends on what you like you sign up to one you like.
