Helpful Information That Can Be Added On The Client

The client, and the game itself is missing a help section. Well theres a place on the GUI i found that a little information can be added that could solve a lot of problems for the pwo staff.

If you look at the item box on the image, I created a possible sample that could be inserted to the place where "battle items" is now. That can be done by editing the skin NO PROGRAMING NEEDED. However that means a limited amount of information can be added. I Thought it would be best to add stuff that is the most important.



Some ideas that could go their:

What CGs can and cant do.

URL to wiki, forums and other places

Information about if server is down (such as if you cant connect what someone should do (hint, do not post new topic, do not spam irc)



Would appreciate feedback on the idea

Hate to burst your bubble, but a CG Letter button would have to be programmed into the game. Otherwise, the text will show up behind your inventory. Also, there's Pokemaster Shane in the top-right corner of the screen to help newcomers.

You are correct, i was mistaken how the backpack worked, this idea originally came to me back when we didnt have a map in game yet still had a map button and empty box.



The button should already be programmed, so the only programing that would be needed is the text that would appear when clicked. Also pokemon shane doesnt seem to be able to bed edited on the gui (server programmed) so it could also be added to the list of things shane says....

As I already pointed out to mad, I don't like where it currently is. In my opinion Shane's tips should be removed - they're out of date and with the recent user bar update, it doesn't seem to fit. What I was suggesting at some point, was if tips were to stay it would be a bar that stays in the top, just below user info, it would be linked up to the database and Playerdex so the messages would be kept up to date (hopefully). I also wanted splash messages to appear here rather than the middle of the client.



As for the actual suggestion for this topic, I would prefer it to be middle of the client rather than in the corner and wider. Maybe embedded images. It should once again be linked up to the database to ensure it's kept up to date. I would be happy for it to have URLs etc... We're long overdue for a help screen, maybe it may come along for 2.0?

There was talk a little while about adding the /help command, which existed in the old clients, to the modern PWO Client - updated to be relevant to the game as it is now, of course - and perhaps even make a button for it. I am not sure what became of those plans...

Not like someone didn't make the effort to write the new help screen up...

While I don't believe u suggest we put these types of things in the help screen I do want to express why I absolutely don't want this type of content in a help screen.



As some of you are probably aware, users tend not to read things that have long blocks of text/lots of reading involve unless they WANT to read it... ala registration message on registration page, and announcements people don't fully read. This type of stuff is ever harder to get users to read because its not something users will be seeking knowledge of. So how do you get players to read it? by tricking them. If you look in the image it says "CG letter" a user might see that and be curious what it is... and that's how u get them invested into reading it.
