Its a black screen bug, which is quite common, that happens when the map server is down or takes a bit long to load... When you press an Arrow key it will say "Attempting to Reload" or something similar,
If it continues there might be another problem regarding something else.

Relog or ask someone to kill you (that way you get transfered into the pokecenter and the map is easy to load)
