Forums: Bye SMF, you have served us well

Hello there again.

Now this may seem short notice (it was to us too), however we have decided that we want to move over to PhpBB.  Due to this, the forums will be offline from 10.40pm (GMT), in which we hope to convert everything straight over to phpBB.  If we're not successful, we'll hold it off till Friday.

Please note that due to this, password reset will be unavailable likely till tomorrow.  We are sorry if this ends up being the case and if it affects anyone.

Edit: This will now be done on Friday or earlier depending on staff availability and stuff.

The old adage that "old is gold" may be true in many cases; but "Forum Software" is not one of them. I can confirm that phpBB3 will be our next servant.

Hmmm... I wonder, but will this help morely with new features in any way? Or does it just have to do with changing over to a new server?

Not only new features, but also making existing ones easier to find. One of the reasons for switching (but not the only reason) is that a lot of people - Staff and Players alike - seemed to have difficulty finding settings and features due to the fact in SMF, many are hidden from plain view due to being in menus that only appear when moused over or not having direct links to at all; and some are simply placed in rather weird locations.

Your disdain is fully understandable, as it goes against the usual convention with "Forum Software". Do not concern yourself, however - we will look into correcting this in the coming weeks.
