first of all i wanna say I'm sorry if i post this in the wrong Sub-Forum. at first i wanna post this in the help n question part, but i think its better to post here coz its more like a something to discuss rather then a mere asking-for-help-question.. ^^

what i want to know for sure is where does PWO stand in the SPATK - ATK system? as most of old pokemon games lovers know, In the early games, physical attacks were any moves of the types Normal, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Bug, Rock, Ghost or Steel; Special attacks were those having the Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Psychic, Dragon or Dark type.

But starting from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl (Gen III), each attacking move is categorised individually: moves of any type can be Physical or Special.

so, which system is being used in PWO? because i think its necessary for us to choose the pokemon's movesets for better result.

i.e :

--> if the old system is the one being used, the move flare blitz is better then flamethrower/heat wave for charizard since in the old system they're both SPATK-based. but if the new system is the one being used, maybe flamethrower is better then flare blitz coz eventhough flare blitz has better power, in the new system flare blitz is ATK-based and flamethrower is SPATK-based, and as we all know, charizard's SPATK stats is way better then its ATK.

--> same thing for other pokes like for gyarados, trash (Normal-ATK) or hyper beam (Normal-SPATK)? or for feraligatr, aqua tail (Water-ATK) or hydro pump (water-SPATK)?

sorry if this have been discussed before, but the thing is i've encounter conditions that can relate to both of the system. and every time i asked in-game chat, i never got a sure answer..

so, any thought on this guys? ^^

Attack/special attack is currently based on types, or how it was 1st-3rd gen.

Sp.Atk works for Water, ice, grass, fire, ghost, psychic (possibly others).

As far as I know, PWO uses the type the attack is to decide wether its ATK or SPATK (gen 3 iirc, since Diamond and pearl are gen 4). I'm not sure, however, if all of the handheld games' SPATK types use SPATK in PWO, and vice versa.

i thought so too.. maybe that's why gengar's shadow ball sucks so much, since ghost is ATK if according to the old system and gengar's ATK stats sucks..

wait.. this means all those elemental punchs from hitmonchan are useless? coz monchan have very low SPATK base stats? could someone with hitmonchan clarify this? lol imma stop hunting hitmonchan now..

Actually, the way PWO is set-up is that attacks are classed as either using ATK or SP.ATK based on their type; with those types who's moves are either more likely to use SP.ATK then ATK; or those types which have greater advantage using SP.ATK using the latter; otherwise it's the former. So move of types such as Ghost and Psychic use SP.ATK; while most others use ATK (I seem to recall there were four types that use SP.ATK in PWO right now but I always forget the list).

In the future it is intended for the Battle System to be updated to bring it more in line with those of modern Generations; as right now it is predominantly based on the Gen-III system - which also leads to newer Pokémon occasionally causing havoc with the system, hence why most Gen IV+ Pokémon are not yet available.

So even if some pokemon got their moveset updated to gen 4 the attak/spa.ttak thingy remains as in gen 3? ( this is kinda confusing)

thanks crocs for asking this question <img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/PikachuExcited.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt=":D" /> it's exactly what i was wondering. i guess that's why some moves differ from those in the newer games.
