After much time spent checking and testing various possibilities, the PWO Staff believe we may have now resolved the issue with clients showing the "Client Out of Date" error and refusing to log people in. It appears a mistake in the server's settings was the issue - though what exactly caused this to happen in the first place is not known*.
If you continue to receive this issue, make sure you are in fact using the most recent client release (and consider downloading it again to be safe); and if it still fails, please screenshot the error message and send us a report via the Tracker.
We heavily apologise for the inconvenience caused.
