Example Two:

Violent69: Hey man whats up?, i caught a shiny today!

Player2: OMG

Player2: dude thats sick, gz!

Community Guide: Player2 has been Muted for 200 seconds

Community Guide: Don't use caps.

^ It's in my opinion that this shouldn't happen, UNLESS people have already been trying to push the staff's buttons.

And for those of you going "You aren't a CG you don't know what you're talking about!" I was a CG for a year until I moved to being a CR. (Only due to the fact I can't get ingame often.) So I know what it's like having to resort to mute people harshly in extreme situations. Context is needed. If there isn't any context, then that's definitely power abuse. (But, nothing could be done without pictures.)

If your second case is true and not over-exaggerating, I feel a simple "OMG" shouldn't warrant a mute for reasons Stank stated earlier:

all CGs except maybe the newest round of recruits have always had a 1-3 word exception to the caps rule. so if you were to say OMG duuude i totaly just caught my first SHINY!!! they wouldnt get mutes

However there is no definite policy for CGs on what is Caps and what isn't, so it's down to opinion.

But yeah, I feel like we're missing context here. Take pictures next time you feel a staff member is in the wrong.

AS for legends...

It's pretty much fair, in my opinion. We aren't supposed to trade or battle with them, so we can't gain anything from them. I mean sure, at first when I got one I was like "WOAH HECK YES ARTICUNO" but soon the novelty of it wore off as I couldn't do anything with it. (except battle other staff for lols =P )

So it really made no difference with or without the legendaries.

PS: The issues of what makes the game crash is stated everywhere. It might not be the nitty gritty detail of 'This specific line of coding went wrong' but you shouldn't be lacking information on that.

Or you guys can totally tl;dr my post too, that's totally fricking awesome of you guys. <img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/SnorlaxTired.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt="-_-" />

Mind you all that what I posted had the answer to everything in this thread, not just the stupid CG and legendary situation.

this whole thread is tl;dr

BUT i did read half, and i almost laughed honestly, yes pwo is very strict, if it were up to me, you can say anything with all caps if you really want but, im not in charge, also, if all the people here had the same chance as staff to catch legendaries, you wouldnt see 1 non legendary pokemon, it would be harshly abused, and we have donations to keep the computer host, maybe get more, who knows, which is in sweden, the devs and admins actually MAKE the server code, so dont expect it to be the perfect, we are only human, and also about the "beta", we would love to have an official release, but the game has many bugs still and cant handle too many people on it
So looking at half of a whole and then deducing your conclusion is how it works? Noted.

The Legendary thing, I never said to give them out to everyone or even make them avaliable, I just think its silly and unfair for the only way to obtain them is for staff only members.

I don't expect anything to be perfect, infact my expectations are extremely low yet still not met.

your 'who knows?', EXACTLY.. WHO knows? thats the question.. is there absolutely not even the basics of order here?

theres nothing really any one of the non dev/admin staff members can reply to your post. as for jinji not replying, hes not the one in charge of testing out dev applicants, that is, once again, xan. this game is under his control and ultimately he decides who he is willing to trust with the keys to his server.

You DO realize nobody is making money off of this project, correct?

All donations go to server costs and hosting. It's an entirely fan made game in a brighter idea of what we all wanted as we initially played Pokemon. An entire network of players rather than the lonely Catch pokemon-elite 4-win style game.

You're simply donating to keep a project going where lovers of a product can be united and play together. It's not a Blizzard game, nor a Harmonix, xbox360 w/e game, so stop treating it as such.

Also, what do you mean by "expectations"? Are Administrators, Developers, GMs and GE's not allowed to have lives? They update the announcements constantly, but just like you, they have to work and support themselves as well as do this for a hobby. Do you feel that they should share more plans with the general public users on what's going to happen? What the plans are? I know your post was long, and you put alot of thought into it, but shortening it up in say 5 points, what do you believe would be beneficial and live upto your "expectations"?

I have 8 years of coding in C++, C#, Perl, Python and basic VB altogether. I could help out and become a DEV with my resume. And I'm not the only one. But we're absolutely horrified to even become a DEV due to the pressure users put on them constantly saying that their work 'Isn't good enough', just like what you're doing now. The current DEVs are brave, way braver than I could be.

I'm sorry Mr. Bis_Eastwood, but it clearly states on the website that if you would like to become a developer, contact Jinji. Unless the website is wrong...

I am not asking for the 'keys' to the server, I don't need access to the server computer, if Xan wants to give me access, then let him. All I'm applying for is to be a developer and help improve the game. And your reply is not even what my entire post back there was about, literally one sentence of that entire essay had the phrase "Jinji not responding" in it. <img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/SquirtleEmbarrassed.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt="o_o" />...

legendaries are perks for staff being loyal and working for us, like payment

and listen closely, almost all of our devs bailed on us, including the main "in charge devs", the devs we currently have are jj and vash; bluerise and i arent as good as them but we do know our stuff, also, what i think it was bis eastwood who said this, but we had major setbacks. we are running on nothing, dont expect a whole lot to happen

and if a dev is reading this and gets offended that i didnt say your name, you should be offended, prove me wrong and do something

yes, you send him your application, then if its credible, you get funneled over to xanatus. not sure if youve ever heard of a "middle man", but thats what it is.

and what else do you want me to reply to, that you believe chocobo7 (the guy i promoted just a week ago), is the only non corrupt staff member? thats cool, idk what else you want me to say.

you believe xan is unprofessional? alright more power to you lol, i dont know him personally and we dont speak, so i cant say anything on his behalf. i dont keep tabs on what xan does, so i cant make any response to those sections of your post. im busy doing my role, i dont really hover over my superiors and crack the whip on them if they arent doing their jobs. im just making sure i do mine. that is why i only responded to what i was able to respond to. not really sure what you want me to say.

You're acting butthurt because they didn't respond to your application? Are you kidding me?

First, your attitude has to be professional and unbiased, which is not a quality a lot of people have. It's like that with any game, even work. If you ever want to Supervise other employees or manage employees, its the exact same thing.

Second, in order to change code, you need the access to change code. It's the basic permissions and fundamentals of a network/server infrastrucure. You wouldn't have any additional privileges except a red ball that says "DEV" under your name if you didn't have the proper SSH keys to access the server.

Third, just because people can't help you with what you initially posted doesn't give you any just reason to fly off the handle at them in the least. A perfect example of your poor attitude.

Sorry man, you're a cool guy but it had to be said.

Yes I have heard of a middle man, but I simply didn't know that was how it had worked. I remember some kind of staff member, an Admin iirc, I'm leaning towards Lee. Anyway, I think* Lee told me to contact Jinji about a developer spot. So I just immediately assumed that Jinji handled that part of the staff recruitment. Sorry for the misunderstanding Bis. I hope I didn't offend you in any way. And it's hard to catch you online tbh <img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/BulbasaurSilly.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt=":p" />, so I can't even see what you or many other possibly good staff do. I'm not saying Chocobo7 is the ONLY good staff, he's just ONE of the good staff.

Don't just assume I keep tabs on Xan, this is what I had been influenced to think of Xan from one conversation I had with some staff (Including Lee) on the IRC.

You know, there is a thing called SVNs, right? Where you can access source code and modify and commit on there? Not to be cocky, but sheesh, you act like you know it all. Chocobo7 is freaking awesome.

Its interesting to see how people handle going about replying to the thread, it shows who deserves their positions.

Alot of the CG's are nice but its like the one kid who speaks back to a teacher and get the entire class detained.

The one rotton apple that spoils the others.. or however the saying goes.

I think there is a simple solution to all of this.

IT'S A POKEMON GAME

Yeah it's a little buggy at times, and yeah it goes down every now and then...but in the end it is still pokemon.

If you want a better pokemon or membership, donate. If you want to complain about donations, then don't donate.

If you want to complain about staff, don't do anything wrong. The rules aren't that hard to follow. It is painfully simple.

Like seriously.......IT'S POKEMON. Be mature and enjoy the game we all grew up loving

Thread seems to be turning into a heated argument about misunderstandings and silly things from what I can tell. There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said, but please try to keep the arguing to a minimum guys.

"If I could swear at you, I would right now". No sense arguing about it since you edited it out, though.

I know what SVNs are, but it would still have to give you access to a sensitive part of the server, which PWO has had a rogue DEV or two, so it's not entirely unreasonable for them to be picky about whom they choose. Even with limited access.

thats mostly because im one of the few staff members that have been active for 2 years straight, without taking breaks. now that ive been hit with hard times, and contemplating retirement, ive decided to take a break. as for the other gm's, when they log on they appear as invisible so that they can effectively work on cleaning the game of hackers scammers and trolls. our rank might be very glorified due to being synonymous with the ban tool, but its a very low key and draining role. what we do doesnt get acknowledged because its done behind the scenes, we all get called lazy because we cant fix a players gym leader npc, or cant get back a scammed players pokemon. and players generally do not get first hand witness of what we do. my typical day as a GM is as follows

long on early in the morning and stay on for 3-4 hours, break, then 2 more hours when im free.

navigate through maps to look for foreign players who are stuck, stay on global and watch every single chat and what occurs in it, hop from map to map to look for players abusing the game, deal with constant GM HALP POKEBAR GONE during 22:00-24:00 ingametime. get players asking to help them get back accidently released pokemon, constantly sending out server messages checking to see if a player is stuck, or to answer questions that playes keep spamming (HALP GM CANT MOVE POKEBAR GONE) then when i finally get free time, i go back to hunting for botters and speed hackers, as well as lurking forums looking for threads that require assistance in game.

then when registration opens, all the players we ban come back, and the cycle continues.

as you can see, when you become a GM, you essentially give up everything. you can not play the game regularly anymore (i have 800 wins, giving up battling was a hard thing to do for me) hell i dont even have a player account, i dont think mad30 does either. so essentially everytime we are on, its from our staff accounts.

also keep the flaming to a minimum.

Okay, I'm not hiding that, I just realized I was being wrong in posting that so I edited it out as soon as I could (loading was being really retarded lol). Today was kind of stressing, and I'd love to give you the full details of my day but that would be outright boring as hell <img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/BulbasaurSilly.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt=":p" />. Righto, trust is hard to achieve. I'm not asking for much, and in fact, when I contacted Jinji, I said I am willing to go through any kind of trust-gaining training if I need to, and I'm willing to prove that I'm trustworthy in many ways. Anyhow, we're drifting very offtopic here, we're not here to talk about what I said to Jinji about becoming a developer, it's about PWO's status as a game. If anyone wants to take this situation of mine any further, then just PM me about it, I'd rather not fill the place with offtopic spam. <img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/MisdreavusWink.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt=";)" />
Too much to quote, so I'll just put this in here to acknowledge I'm talking to you Bis.
And I thank you for being such a diligent GM Bis, I'm sorry I haven't recognized your true dedication to this game, and we're lucky to have you as a GM. Not to brown-nose, just an apology if you feel unrecognized and upset.

PS - LOL at your nooby situations. They sound like hell... Haha

its not just me that deserves recognition, adamwest and mad30 do too. thats why threads like this often lead down the wrong path. and my point is proven by the OP post when he grouped us with the CG's and claimed we were "horrible". truth is we dont have any correlation with them. they have a leader for that. and this is also why i emphasize evidence. nothing is credible unless you can back it up, otherwise its just unproductive and doesnt improve anything, while also causing more problems.
