I'm having trouble mic'ing my guitars. I want to capture the bogner uberschall tone, but I have to blast it in order to get the crispness of the notes. Unfortunately, even though the Mic is mounted, I still get a rattled distortion during playback.
I thought about using a Cone and condenser inside an enclosed box, would you recommend this? If not, what would you recommend for mic'ing a fullstack amp. And yes, I'm playing Melodic Death Metal similar to the black dahlia murder.

Guitars, in my opinion are the hardest things to record. From what I've found getting a modern guitar sound in any genre requires a combination of mic's, placement and EQ. (sometimes serious EQ) Although some purists would argue that if you need to EQ then your placement is off. I'd say this would be true for less processed forms of music but for any rock these days, this is my idea of getting it.
I'm not familiar with the 'cone' mic you're talking about but a mic combination is definitely the way to go, I have had most success with using a ribbon (Royer 121) and a condenser (Neumann 87) but I've seen plenty of people use cardiods like SM57s and Sennheiser 421s and get a good sound. Another huge thing to consider when it comes to guitars is SO MUCH of it is about the amp, guitar and musician. Does the amp run on tubes or solid-state transistors, is the guitar a Gibson or an Ashton.. the musician can have all the best gear in the world but if he's only been playing for 3 weeks he/she will still sound like poop, so tightness of your performance when recording is super important.
Let's rap this up. <img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/BulbasaurSilly.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt="

In terms of placement, I usually for for the middle of the speaker diaphragm if it's too harsh maybe move the mic's to where the cone of the speaker touches the diaphragm so slightly off centre. Oh yeah, when using mic's make sure to have the best phase coherency so keep the microphone diaphragms lined up so the sound source hits the mics at the same time. Some people put mic's right up against the grill but if you've got a room the amp sounds nice in, use it, back those microphones off from the cab maybe up to 20-30cm. That distorted rattle you're talking about could be a number of things.. A speaker cone in the cab? Perhaps the microphone can't handle the loud sound pressure level. I'm sure you have already but have a good listen to where it's coming from cause it could be as simple as a cab handle rattling (personal experience. <img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/BulbasaurSilly.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt="
" />) Whatever it is, pad it down so it stops rattling.
Try things out man, and trust your ears. One of the biggest mistakes of people researching audio online is they take too much of what people say as fact. Just jump in the deep end and get it sounding how you like. But I'll say this, don't be afraid of being too drastic with the EQ, it might be what those guitars need!

I just wanted to say I really like the songs you posted.
Mostly the first one since the original of the second is grossly overplayed on the radio <img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/BulbasaurSilly.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt="" /> lol.

There are heaps more originals on our youtube channel. This is another one of my favorites that I had quite a bit to do with. <img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ChikoritaSmile.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt="
