Answering Some Frequently Asked Questions

It has occurred to me that everyday the same questions are being asked, some of which are kinda blah to answer time after time. Other times there are topics which suggest we need new servers, but they haven't got a clue why there aren't more. So to alleviate some of the gunk which mucks of the cogs of pwo, I thought a handbook with a lot of answers would help.

Sever full?

Whenever you get a persistent loading screen for more than a minute, this means you can't get into the server at this time.

Capture.png

To avoid frustration and having to use the task manager to shut off pwo, click on the X in the right hand corner. You'll get a notification in the middle.Click the left option to confirm your logging out.

ssdd.png

When this happens, all you can do is try logging in again and hope someone logged off at the same time, or try again at a different time.

So you've registered and are now in game

Starter island: Read the content on this link

Basic steps:

1. Leave scuttle cove and walk down the winding path until you reach the next area

2. Find the pokemon lab, it's the biggest building

3. talk to the professor, he'll need you to retrieve his papers

4. Go to the northeastern corner of the island, there will be a shack and a boat. Go in the shack and talk to the manager, he'll give you a list of things you'll need before you leave.

5. Talk to the helper npc. In the link provided, you'll see he looks like a nerd with glasses, he'll help direct you in obtaining the items you need.

6. Talk to the manager in the shack and walk out to the boat.

Summation: To be honest, it's not very hard. Even without reading the wiki page or following these steps, it's just a matter of exploring the island and talking to random npc's. Don't worry about the research paper part, it's the only frustrating portion of the game.

The main land!

So you've arrived in johto or kanto, but now you have all these questions regarding the game. Well here's some things you should know before hand.

Tm's and Hm's: THERE ARE NONE

As of now, there aren't any. So be aware of this when you are making your poketeam. You won't need an early flying pokemon because there's no fly. You won't need an early hm mull because there is no cut or flash. In the same regard, do not obtain certain pokemon because they have flexible move sets. For instance, I used to always get a gengar because of all the tm's I could teach it if I faced a normal type pokemon.

OMG, MAGNITUDE DOESN'T work and tail whip is IMBA: Broken moves

There are many moves in PWO which do not work properly or are imbalanced. As you play, you'll see how handy tail whip is,but you'll notice how useless mud sport is. In addition to this, many moves like teleport don't teleport you, whirlwind doesn't force pokemon out of battle, and destiny bond does not take your opponent with you when the user's pokemon is knocked out.

Rebattling Npcs and gym leaders

There is a 2 week cooldown on trainers you find on the routes.

There is a 24 hour cooldown on gym leaders if you lose.

p.s: The gym leaders do not give you a tm, so don't fret because it's not like the games yet.

Reputation:

This is a feature in the game which determines when you can and can't perform certain actions. You gain reputation by beating gym leaders and npc's, as well as other players. But beware, you lose rep for losing in player vs player.

To trade:

You need 30

To sell on the player maket:

Player market:

ddddf.png

Here you can buy pokemon from other people or sell them when you have the necessary reputation. As you can see, I have picked butterfree and now have a wide variety to choose from. Just like this, there are a number of pokemon for sale, based on level and stats and rarity. Usually pokemon which are rarer than others, tend to be more expensive. This mart is a handy and almost necessary tool for getting rich in pwo, but it's also a nice way to get pokemon which you don't want to actually catch or train yourself. But you gotta have the money to get the convenience.

Do note: It's a player run market, which means there is no price setting by the developers. It's up to the players to decide how much a certain pokemon may be.

Evolution stones:Link

Evolution stones are still in PWO,but they come at a large premium in this game.To obtain one, you must find the vendor who is selling them on a specific area of the region.Or go to Celdaon city or Golden rod.

Note: Moonstones are only found in one area in each region.West dark Cave(Johto) and Mt.moon Floor 1(kanto)

Price per stone:15,000

Questions about rarity and shinys, and encounter rates:

Rarity: Different pokemon in pwo have different rarities. Here are the levels:

Common(You'll find too many of these)

Rare(You might find a few if you look long enough)

Horribly rare(Good luck finding these)

Shiny pokemon: These pokemon are simply ones which seem to sparkle a little. They have elite stats, which means they are stronger than normal pokemon, but they are extremely rare.

Encounter rates:There are no real released odds, but it's something you will learn as you continue to play. Finding a really rare pokemon will take you hours, if not days of off and on searching.

Fishing:Link

Old rod

So here's the deal with fishing, you have to go to route 32 in Johto and vermillion city in kanto,to get the old rod. There is no good rod and super rod in this game. How you get better pokemon while fishing is by leveling up your fishing skill.

If you get a pokemon you don;t have the proficiency for,you won't be able to battle that pokemon. When you do reel in one you can catch, it levels up your skill with each encounter.

On the wiki links provided, are the location of the old rod and what you can catch, rarity, etc.

Do note, the wiki is not full proof, it doesn't display dratini, but most of the information should be accurate.

Common technical issues and game commands:

Commands

What's can I catch in this route?: /list

These dang tips are annoying./tipsoff

Where can I find a specific pokemon?/list <insert pokemon name>

Stuck?

For minor freeze issues: /refresh fixes most problems if you can't enter or leave an area

If your case is more severe, all you can do is

1.Battle another player and lose on purpose

2.Ask a staff member to get you out manually

3.Relogin and hope the problem is solved

New servers:Why you shouldn't ask for them
Jinji has stated this before. I will restate it here.

for score and 1-2 years ago, PWO rand two servers: Blue and Diamond. IT was then that we realized that data cannot be saved on both servers at the same time. This would typically mean that one server lost a lot of save data, while the other did not. This occurs due to faulty coding within PWO. In order for us to ever run multiple servers correctly, this would need to be fixed, which atm is not a priority.

As to the question of wither or not you could play both character on the 2nd server. There are two ways to go about doing that. One is to have a different "character" per server. This would mean that on the login screen, you would select a server to connect to using your normal username/ pw. Upon successful connection, you would then load your user data stored on that server. The 2nd option would be to have a general login. Upon successful connection, you would then chose a server to connect to. The database would then send your character information to that server. I believe that is how it is currently setup, but again, this brings about the issue of both servers trying to save to the db at the same time, and one essentially failing to save
TL;DR It's not a priority for the pwo staff to fix the game so everyone can login with one username and password on multiple server.

Pokemon which evolve by trading(GLITCH)
Trade evolutions are glitched in PWO. Rather than triggering after having being traded to another player, they only properly work if the Pokémon to be evolved remains with the Trainer trying to evolve them. What's more, evolution can be triggered after completion of ANY trade, even if they weren't involved (as long as they are in the party). The "$1 Trade" has long become the most popular method of forcing Trade Evolutions to occur, because it's simple to do and works 99% of the time.

Note that things may change in the future, as there are plans for PWO to eventually overhaul the entire battling and trading systems - but we do not expect these to be completed any time in the near future as it's a lot of work.

By the way, those Pokémon you're trying to get are some of my absolute favourites...

Hehe I don't know how to answer membership problems and am too tired to look for the staff answers.

maybe, just maybe, people will know how to use the simplest of commands <img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/BulbasaurSilly.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt=":p" /> since they obviously don't pay attention to the beginning island... <img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/SnorlaxTired.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt="-_-" />

Yay for bumps. I added in the whole fishing thing and pokemon rarity thing. But I dun have any staff quotes though. >.>

<img src="http://www.pokemon-world-online.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/MedititeThinking.png" class="bbc_emoticon" alt=":hmm:" /> To further expand on the annoying starter island, should it be a youtube tutorial or a screenshot walk through, showing where all the key points are? I only get one chance to re do it and am not really sure which is better. xD
