What pokemon are you using and how many ranks of BT have you completed? There used to be a Dex limitation for early ranks back in the day (I believe once you hit I think rank 4 you were allowed full dex use but before then you could only use kanto and Johto pokemon) though I'm not sure if that is still a thing or not.
