So after completing the kanto region, defeating the elite four, I'm finally in the johto area and for whatever reason prof elm wont give me a new starter. Surely somethings not right? I followed an elite four guide where it said that after defeating the 4, speak to Adrian and receive a starter...

no one has experience with an adrian bug? am i missing something?

great write up helped me out a lot, my only question is when i go to speak to adrian, he asks what is your name and no matter what response I give, calls me a liar and the convo ends. Happened before and after I defeated the elite four, any idea why or suggestion on what to do?
