Recently, my laptop has become incredibly unstable, with the performance degrading terribly at random moments; and wireless connectivity cutting out at times and occasionally not restoring itself until I restart it (even when using external wireless cards). This obviously causes me a lot of hassle, as if I can't rely on my internet connectivity or my laptop slows at the times I really need it, helping out members of the community or simply remaining active at PWO - or any of my other projects for that matter - becomes incredibly difficult. This is a significant issue as my laptop is the only computer I can guarantee having access to 24/7.
I have been performing a lot of maintenance on my laptop recently in an attempt to try to help the computer run better, some of which has helped, but there are still occasional issues and I have once or twice found my laptop to be completely unusable - to the point I have once been driven to rage by it. So I'm taking it to be inspected to see if it can be fixed (since I do NOT have the cash right now to replace it).
Given the above conditions, I have decided that since I will not have much access to the computer for the next few days; and because I also could use a break anyway in order to allow myself to prevent losing my sanity and to focus on other matters, I am taking a temporary leave from Pokémon World Online and all related matters. For now, I plan to make this a five-day break, though this time may lengthen or shorten depending on the events of the next few days. During my break, I will not be checking up on the Forum or responding to any PMs I receive, so I highly suggest forwarding any problems you have to other staff if you require an immediate response. I also will not be in-game. However, I may still make short appearances on the IRC; and if you have my MSN you can still speak to me using it during my break, though I will probably ignore any questions about PWO. (Note: If you DON'T have my MSN, I'm not giving it out, so don't ask)
I highly apologise for leaving so suddenly, but I feel it's a necessity at this point in time and I hope to return as soon as I'm able. I am fully confident though that our Staff will be able to cover for my absence in such short notice. Goodbye for now.

Beware, Mortals! I have returned!
I managed to figure out and fix my laptop issues - turns out it was a rogue Rotom screwing with its internals. I don't like to berate members of my own kind, but if there is one species of Ghost I have ZERO respect for, it's Rotom. It was easy to get rid of it though - well, out of the computer anyway. Making it actually leave was another question and resulted in a quite intense battle.
Actually, if I'm honest, I've been feeling a little... different lately. It's hard to describe, but it's almost like I'm more... energised. My attacks felt a lot stronger during the battle, I know that much. I also feel a lot more closer to my fellow Spirits, as weird as that is since we're rarely apart. Something is going to happen soon, I know it.

In the midnight hours of yesterday night (can we coin "yesternight" as an actual dictionary word?), me and Lee had been discussing Pokémon World Matters; and eventually the topic of Tokens came up. I've been aware of the plans to create a new Token Store for a while now - most of the Staff have been giving their input about it in various ways over the past week - yet I was still surprised when Lee told me work was "almost complete".
Later that night I was invited to test out the new Token Store; and ended up purchasing a few items as a trial. The system worked perfectly; and with both me and Lee satisfied, I decided to give myself the duty of proof-reading the pages to ensure they were written in acceptable English as a last touch before the system's release. As a result, a number of misspellings, grammatical errors and unclear terms were corrected - though I'm happy to say the actual amount of changes needed was few in relation to the total content of the pages themselves, so it wasn't a lengthy job, which is always a good thing.
The new Token Store was actually launched publicly only hours ago; and Bluerise has already made a pretty good Announcement about it; thus it'd be redundant for me to say much more. My next duty will likely be helping Lee deal with people who had Memberships previously that should still be active; but I will need to talk to him first.

Earlier in the week, when dealing with a Token Issue and finding I was having trouble accessing the site the receipt was posted on, I joked that anything made by mortal hands should never be trusted, unless you can cope with it going wrong. I now have experienced this very situation first-hand; when after a crash on my laptop, the USB Wireless Adapter I use to connect my laptop Online wirelessly fried and I discovered it to have completely broke on me... on New Year's Day, no less.
I've ordered a new adapter to replace it, but I've now heard back it may be up to a week before it arrives; during which time my laptop will have no internet connection; and I can't guarantee I'll be able to access other computers. So I've decided that until it arrives, I'm going to leave the shadows of PWO behind for a while and take my hauntings elsewhere. But I'll be back soon.

That Contagion was the only one to offer any kind of response to my temporary departure here on my developer log is both saddening and also strangely ironic. My new Wireless Adapter, which was expected to take up to a week to arrive, actually arrived at the originally expected time and landed in my lap two days ago. Unfortunately, that day, my mortal body was hit by a serious stomach bug that left it vomiting all day; so I decided to allow it to rest. Ended up bed-ridden for pretty much 36 hours straight. Thankfully I'm okay now, but it's probably best I didn't strain myself too quickly. But regardless, I'm back

Thanks Stank, that means a lot. I hope to get back to my usual hard working style soon, but right now I don't want to think too much.
Before I had all this misfortune though, I was thinking about the future of the Chain Game, arguably PWO's most popular Forum Game and one I've been asked a lot recently if I'll ever get around to reviving it. The answer is yes, I will, but I feel it needs a little reworking first - because the last rewrite to the Chain Game didn't go all that well, honestly. The game became so strictly controlled it stopped being fun; and people started breaking rules in every direction, creating an organisational nightmare. That's why for several weeks now, I've been working on a fourth rewrite of the game to simplify it and add some much needed fun back in.
I finally came up with a plan two weeks ago; and wrote up a draft post for it, which I've shown to various members of Staff; all of whom were in support of the new game. My plan was to launch the new Chain Game on the New Year, but due to the aforementioned misfortunes that befell me, that didn't happen - and also, I've discovered a slight mistake in my rule list I need to correct. But I intend to launch it soon, so keep an eye on the Forum Games section! I don't want to reveal too much about my plans for the new game so as not to ruin the surprise, but what I will say is I'm ramping up the competition factor; as well as giving players the chance to take revenge for Staff destroying their chances so many times; and good co-operation is more essential than ever.
I'm also considering adopting a yearly tournament structure with the leading players winning the right to use a special signature or avatar to demonstrate their mastery of the game. I made an example design today (self-designed, I'm pleased to say - I seem to be getting good at these) of what each signature could end up looking like, which you can see below. This is not the final design - I didn't include all the text; and there will be multiple sigs in the final game with different bottom lines to represent different awards - but I would very much appreciate people's feedback.

Unfortunately I've been having another laptop problem - well actually, I've had it for a few weeks now, but I'm clueless to a fix. Basically, my Office suite crashes with absolute certainty each time I open a document for editing. Oh well, it's only the third program to screw up in as many weeks... just as well I'm planning to reformat it soon anyway.
