Greetings, fellow Trainers!

The entire PWO Team have been hard at work over the last few months to keep PWO moving forward, fix bugs and introduce all kinds of cool stuff for everyone. Finally, it’s time to reveal the latest fruits of our combined labours. Presenting: PWO v1.98.3.2!

While the numbering may suggest that this new client release is a minor update from our previous release, the truth of the matter is that it’s anything but. The first thing you may notice is the redesigned topbar, which has now removed the Reputation count as this feature is now fully retired. The central space will now be used to show important messages instead, including a countdown timer whenever we announce any planned maintenance or restarts, so you have an always-visible indication of how much time you have to finish battles, etc. before you get forcibly logged out. Speaking of battle, you might also notice that the move Fling is now much more accurately implemented.

It would take me too long to go through the full list of changes that have gone into this massive release, so if you want to read the full list of every change that has gone into this update, hit the spoiler!

  • Amended bicycle message
  • Amended clock rotation for player bar
  • Amended conditions for Wurmple's evolutions
  • Chat tabs will now affect the positioning of the bottom stat container
  • Commands /tok and /pwotok have been removed
  • During an evolution, a shiny icon and sprite will show if the Pokemon is shiny
  • Fixed an error which caused NPCs to appear incorrectly
  • Fixed an error where NPCs could only set players to face in a north direction
  • Fixed an error which caused the sprite to appear incorrectly on the mini map for Route 24
  • Fling will now:
    • Fail if the user has a tm, hm, gem or Pokeball as a held item
    • Base its power on the held item
    • Remove the held item upon being used
    • Badly poison the opponent when flinging a Toxic Orb
    • Burn the opponent when flinging a Flame Orb
    • Give a 100% change of the opponent flinching if the held item is a Kings Rock or Razor Fang
    • Poison the opponent when flinging a Poison Barb
    • Restore the opponent's stat changes when flinging a White Herb
  • Increased attack power of moves while holding a Dread Plate and using a dark type move
  • Message 'You don't have a bicycle' will no longer appear when typing in the join channel container
  • NPC directions can now be amended while interacting with an NPC
  • NPCs can now be set to provide a custom money prize
  • Player bar can now displays alerts for reboots / server downtime / staff only server
  • Posting PWO's twitter account will now display 'Twitter' instead of 'Link'
  • Reputation and team information no longer displays on player bar
  • Some messages will no longer display emoticons or will display staff tags only
  • System messages will appear above the chat bar if the chat box is hidden
  • Text within the join channel container will no longer be cleared if you click anywhere other than the ok/cancel button
  • Time periods have been amended for the player bar:
    • Daytime - no longer exists
    • Night - 21:00 to 05:59 (was 20:00 to 06:59)
    • Morning - 06:00 to 11:59 (was 07:00 to 11:59)
    • Afternoon - 12:00 to 17:59 (was 14:00 to 16:59)
    • Evening - 18:00 to 20:59 (was 17:00 to 19:59)
  • Using the left/right arrow keys will scroll along a chat box / PM message
  • When relogging, chat messages will no longer be remembered

As always with a client update, everyone will need to re-download and install PWO afresh before you can continue to play. So please visit our main website to find our updated download links :D

So can we expect night spawns to stay an hour longer now?
The intention for this update was to bring the clock in-line with how spawns are already defined in-game.
...At least, that's how I understood it. @Bluerise would be the best person to ask about that ;)

Progress! This is exciting. Two little client bugs I've found so far:
  • Links on 3rd line of chat don't align.
  • Can't backspace text in PM windows, nor edit said text using arrows.
A huge thank you to all staff involved for your efforts in keeping this game alive!

Can't backspace when you pasted text either.

To fix this, open a PM inbox and start typing; then - without sending a PM - click the regular chat box and start typing there. Click back onto the PM and you'll find the arrow keys and backspace work again ;)
In the software development field we like to call that "working as designed"

It's not just in PMs, it's also in the regular chat box and pop-up boxes
edit: figured out you'll have to press backspace for the same amount of characters you pasted first, before you can use your backspace again.

Hmmm. It's possible that this is because the cursor position isn't correctly updated when text is pasted, and it ends up being placed beyond the text buffer. This is definitely a glitch - please report it on the Bug Tracker.

In testing Fling, it seems that Razor Fang is the only item to have its effects activated. I haven't tested King's Rock yet as I do not own one at this instance. From my observations, the damage calculations and power of the Fling move are accurate but the resulting effects are not being triggered.
