Registration ends September 19, 00:00 AM UTC. Brackets release September 19, 00:10 AM UTC. Battles begin September 20, 00:00 AM UTC.
1) Open-format: All Pokémon allowed; lvl 100; no 32 IVs. Only enter with one account.
2) 3-day rounds. Best-of-3. Double-elimination bracket.
Avoiding battles will result in an automatic loss. ‘Avoiding’ includes and is not limited to:
- Refusing a battle when you are online and your opponent asks to battle OR not showing up to a pre-arranged battle time.
- Use the "battle" channel in the PWO Discord to contact your opponents and organize a time.
- If you get disconnected, that will count as a loss. It is your responsibility to secure a stable connection.
- In cases where both parties are equally responsible for avoiding, the winner will be chosen at random.
- Species: Each Pokémon on a player's team must have a different Pokédex number. (Ex: A team with two Abras is prohibited, while a team with Abra and Kadabra is allowed.)
- Item Limitations: None. Notify opponents if Air Balloon is led.
- Sleep: Each player can only put one opposing Pokémon asleep at a time. (Pokémon that are put to sleep due to Rest or Sleep Talk do not count).
- Evasion: Moves or Abilities that increase the user’s Evasion are prohibited. (E.g. Double Team, Minimize, Sand Veil, etc.)
- OHKO: Allowed.
- HP/Status Modification: May not modify the health/status of a Pokémon before the start of the battle. All Pokémon must be fully healed and free of any status conditions.
- Modified Baton Pass: Baton Pass cannot be used to pass boosts. (E.g. Baton Passing Dragon Dance, Swords Dance, Curse, Moxie boost, etc., is prohibited)
- Modified Trap: Shadow Tag and Arena Trap is prohibited. Magnet Pull is allowed. Trap moves like Mean Look, Fire Spin, Whirlpool are allowed.
- Unique Event Moves: If a Pokémon doesn't normally learn the move through any generation, it's not allowed.
- Future Content Ban: Any new Pokémon introduced after the release of this post and during the tournament is prohibited. (Ex: If Kyogre and Groudon were released mid-tournament, they would not be allowed.)
3) Team preview: Each battle begins by previewing to both players all 6 Pokémon that both players have. RECORDING REQUIRED BEFORE PREVIEW. Download a recording software, e.g., OBS.
>> Start recording video; check that your opponent is also recording.
>> Copy down your team and get ready to paste/send Pokémon names to your opponent (ideally over private message) at the same time. We recommend a countdown “3, 2, 1, send”. If you don’t send within 10 seconds of your opponent, it’s a battle loss (so be prepared). Videos will be proof if any issues arise.
>> Two minutes to select lead (no changing moves/items/EVs/abilities, etc.). Click through Pokémon to confirm no changes were made.
>> Battle
If you'd like to report an issue, you must provide proof. Your first line of questioning should go towards Community Guides (CG)@Feathers.McGraw, @AsianKid/@Sushikraver. It is advised to send video evidence to a non-participating Staff member.
Getting disqualified for whatever reason will result in the forfeiture of prizes. Staff reserves the right to deny prize earnings to any trainer for any reason relating to, but not exclusive to: violation of rules, absence/inactivity, and improper behavior.
4) Known relevant PvP issues:
Participating in this tournament means you acknowledge the risks that come with certain battle mechanics.
Cursed Body can disable multiple attacks (kinda OP), and Download increases the opposite stat.
Implementation status of all abilities can be found on the PWO Wiki.

Can restart weather turns early if you switch back in (e.g., on the second turn of Rain, can switch back a Pokémon with Drizzle to set it back to 5-8 turns). Additionally, if two weather-inducing Pokémon face off, the faster Pokémon will have its weather effect active instead of the slower one.
Several wonky things happen with these "switch/pivot" or self-fainting/recoil moves.
- Fainting a Pokémon causes a weird new round trigger that forces both sides to press a button/move so the opponent can switch out to their next Pokémon. (Not obvious and could be lost due to the new 60-second timer.)
- In addition to the above, the Pokéballs that display the number of Pokémon left will display an additional faint due to this new round. So instead of correctly showing 5 Pokémon left, it'll show there are only 4 Pokémon. A visual bug.
- A similar visual bug occurs when a Pokémon is fainted by hazards (e.g. Stealth Rocks and Spikes) and when it uses self-KO moves (e.g. Final Gambit, Explosion, Memento).
When Trick or Switcheroo is used with a Choice item, the user is still forced to use Trick or Switcheroo again despite losing the Choice item. The opposing Pokémon will also be able to select a different move than it used previously (even if it was given the Choice item before moving).
Failing Protect doesn't reset the Protect used count if used consecutively. Protect can also block hazards from being set up (Stealth Rock, Toxic Spikes, Spikes).
Won't show if on the lead Pokémon. Please inform the opponent if you choose to lead.
The result of Focus Punch should be determined in one turn, not two, but it is two. At -3 priority, the user is "tightening its focus" and the prompt should be shown. If it is hit by a damaging move that same turn, then it will lose focus and not follow through with the attack.
Gyro Ball damage calculations do not factor in the halved Speed from the Power items. The halved Speed is still there, but Gyro Ball only factors the original speed stat. For example, 50 Speed becomes 25 Speed with the Power item, but Gyro Ball calculates using the 50 Speed.
Not functioning in battle.
5) Future Sight (Clarifiers and Rulings)
This ain't our first rodeo, so we'd like to clarify some topics brought up in past tournaments.
1. "Can we share Pokémon between friends and guildmates?" Of course, what are friends for? That said, all ongoing battles should be done on your own, obviously. No coaching (advising moves) can be done throughout a match.
2. "What's to prevent other players or even Staff participants from cheating?" There are checks in place to prevent that, but a more thorough investigation into our activity can be done if there's reasonable suspicion of foul play or interference. While we have player accounts, our primary role as Staff is to ensure fair play and provide a good player experience. If you have severe concerns with fair play or the Staff's ability to create a safe tournament environment, we suggest not joining.
3. "Why was Player X allowed to re-do their match and given extra time to battle, but I didn't?" Have you heard of The Boy Who Cried Wolf? We take these issues on a case-by-case basis and determine the best course forward. Your history and ability to cooperate (aka communicate timely and respectfully) will be considered. Important decisions will undergo several levels of review and scrutiny.
4. We understand competition can be fierce and emotions can run high; however, we expect everyone to be respectful. If we hear of any harassment of any kind, jail. (Where's my hammer?) If we hear of any bullying or targeting, jail. If we hear of personal attacks (i.e., not interpreted by most as friendly banter), jail. If we hear of private matters being expressed publicly (in-game, Forums, etc.), believe it or not, jail. Notify the appropriate level of Staff if the matter persists.

5. By joining this tournament, you accept the terms laid out and any future rulings made by the Staff. We will do our best to make sure this tournament runs as smoothly as possible. Just focus on preparing for your exciting battles ahead!
